Why choose wood? Rural development, poverty alleviation, and building an eco-friendly society
How does increased domestic consumption of wood products benefit timber producing states?
In this video, we highlight ITTO’s sustainable wood use project. Featuring perspectives from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Viet Nam on how this project has promoted the sustainable consumption of wood and wood products in their domestic markets.
Sustainable and legally sourced wood:
-Cuts carbon emissions from construction by up to 60%
-Consumes less energy in the manufacturing process
-Creates jobs, especially in mountainous areas
-Contributes to rural development, poverty alleviation, and building an eco-friendly society
With support from Japan, ITTO is helping countries in Asia boost local wood use by cutting export dependence, growing green economies, educating consumers, and managing tropical forests sustainably.
