With ITTO support, teak has become a key economic driver in Thailand once again
Come with us to Thailand, a country with the second largest area of natural teak forests globally.
Here teak improves the livelihoods of local communities, reduces dependency on imports, and provides a more environmentally friendly method of construction.
A joint ITTO-BMLEH project in Thailand is promoting the improvement of teak quality and sustainable production in smallholder plantations to help teak become one of the country’s most valuable timber resources.
In this video we visit the Mae Ka Forest Research Station, which is a first of its kind seed orchard which researches and improves different varieties of teak for distribution.
We go to a site from the ITTO Teak Project Mekong where 100 mother trees are undergoing clonal testing to identify good characteristics for planting.
Watch to learn secrets from a teak plantation in Nan Province, a seed center in Lampang Province, and to hear how the Ban Sri Boonruang Teakwood Processing Group came together to enable easier market access.
