Planetary health is a relatively new field that examines how human‑driven changes to the environment affect human health. For medics, this perspective is essential—not only because we care about the health of individual patients, but also about the wellbeing of their communities and the populations we serve. As humanitarians, it also matters because environmental damage can worsen or trigger humanitarian crises, and understanding these links helps us prevent avoidable suffering and negative health outcomes.
