Syria: Explosive Remnants of War in Deir Ez-Zor,
Like much of #Syria, Deir ez-Zor has suffered huge destruction throughout more than a decade of armed conflict. 60-80% of the city are believed to remain destroyed to date. Years of heavy fighting, bombardment, and territorial shifts have left critical infrastructure, including the health sector in ruins, and disrupted the fabric of daily life. Thousands of people were forced to flee, either as internally displaced persons (IDPs) or as refugees.
Since April 2025, MSF has been supporting the emergency room at DNH in collaboration with the DoH, providing emergency care, laboratory services, infection prevention and control, sterilization, and water and sanitation support. MSF has also supported staff training, established a triage system, improved patient flow, rehabilitated the hospital’s waste management area, and installed new incinerators and an X-ray machine.
