Sudan: Nyala Malnutrition Crisis

Sudan: Nyala Malnutrition Crisis

The nutrition situation in Nyala, South #Darfur, is critical, with persistently high acute malnutrition among children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls. In MSF-supported Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) between 17–26% of children screened were identified with acute malnutrition, including 4–5.5% with severe acute malnutrition. The crisis has worsened since April 1, 2026, when inpatient therapeutic feeding services at Nyala Teaching Hospital were suspended, leaving no facility for children with severe malnutrition and complications. An estimated 15–20 children are now turned away daily. The Ministry of Health lacks the capacity to respond, and no actor has stepped in despite sustained advocacy. #talkaboutsudan
