CMS's Electronic Calorimeter (ECAL), a key part of the CMS detector, will be gutted, massively upgraded, and replaced for the new Hi Lumi phase of the LHC and CMS. To make sure that the new ECAL will be functional and accurate, the new designs are put to the test in a beam of particles to see how they hold up and make sure they work as well as they can. This was an intense period of time, and required a lot of shift crew from all over the world to take part!
