Schistosomiasis treatment failure and improved treatment strategies: DRIVERS, a Wellcome project
This webinar marks the online launch for DRIVERS, a Wellcome-funded project 'Identifying drivers of schistosomiasis treatment failure and recommendations for treatment strategies'
[French interpretation available here: ]
Despite more than 20 years of praziquantel mass drug administration and the WHO 2030 goal of elimination as a public-health problem, schistosomiasis transmission remains high in many places and treatment success varies greatly. The DRIVERS project is a collaboration between partners based in Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi, Cameroon and the UK, aiming to:
1) improve estimates of Schistosoma haematobium and Schistosoma mansoni worm burdens, clearance and reinfection dynamics
2) determine drivers of treatment failure at both the individual and community level, and
3) inform more effective control
Presentations and panel discussion with:
- Prof Poppy Lamberton (School of Biodiversity, One Health & Veterinary Medicine and the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Parasitology, University of Glasgow)
- Dr Jean Coulibaly (Associate Professor, Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire, CSRS)
- Prof Janelisa Musaya (Associate Director, Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme, MLW)
