Digital Cashless Tourism System Launch | Zanzibar

The Government of Zanzibar, in partnership with UNDP Tanzania’s BIOFIN, has launched a new Digital Cashless Tourism System for marine and terrestrial protected areas. The system enables digital payment of protected area entry fees through mobile money, bank transfers, and credit cards, while supporting real-time monitoring and improved revenue management. Combined with updated conservation fees, the reform is projected to increase revenues from US$1.5 million to US$4.3 million, contributing to more sustainable conservation financing in Zanzibar.
