Resist Climate Chaos: Dec 9th 350.org and Common Horizon Call

On Dec 9th, 350.org and Common Horizon partnered up to host an Emergency Call to Resist Climate Chaos. Here's what was on the agenda: Carney just announced a toxic deal with the Government of Alberta to build a massive tar sands pipeline from Alberta to BC – despite steadfast Indigenous opposition. The deal locks our economy to a volatile, toxic, and dying industry, and guts a decade of progress on climate action. The Alberta/Canada MOU is a slap in the face to workers and families who deserve investment in affordable, renewable energy and a safe future. It's startling that Carney would hand such a huge gift to Big Oil billionaires and Premier Danielle Smith who just undermined the right to strike for Alberta labour unions. Join us on Tuesday Dec 9th at 4:00 pm PT/ 7:00 pm ET to take stock of recent federal decisions, hear from inspiring activists on the frontlines of resistance, including Janelle Lapointe and Eve Saint, and find out how you can fight back! Here's more about our incredible guest speakers: Janelle Lapointe is a climate justice and Indigenous rights organizer from Stellat’en First Nation. She is currently a Senior Advisor at the David Suzuki Foundation and a guest on Treaty 13 territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat peoples, as well as the Mississaugas of the Credit. She leans on her lived experience growing up on her small reserve in Northern British Columbia to ensure that intersectionality is at the forefront of environmental narratives, to build power and help others see their stake in fighting back against the status quo. Eve Saint is a Wet’suwet’en land defender and mother of two, and a leading organizer in the movement urging RBC to divest from Coastal GasLink and the fossil fuel industry. Eve is the daughter of Chief Woos, one of Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs. Eve is the Co-founder and lead co-ordinator of 8th Fire Rising a network of Indigenous Land Defenders/Leaders opposing the recent onslaught of annihilating federal/ provincial bills such as Bill C-5, Bill 5, Bill 14,15 etc. Eve lives in Tkaronto, where she cares for two beautiful children.
