What does one more month of war and oil price shocks cost ordinary people? What if that money went toward making clean energy affordable and accessible to all? On April 21st 2026, 350.org launched our new report "Out of Pocket: How Fossil Fuels Are Draining Households and Economies" showing just how much money ordinary people lose to the fossil fuel industry each year. Using updated, peer-reviewed models, the report will reveal total support to the fossil fuel industry through direct subsidies and tax breaks, as well as calculations of climate and health damages that the people pay for – which is estimated to cost each person about $1,400 per year globally.
