In the coastal of Hadramout, fresh fish is more than a livelihood, it’s a way of life. Yet without reliable ice, the daily catch once risked spoiling before reaching markets. With support from the World Bank’s IDA, UNDP and its national partner SMEPS supported the factory with an insulated transport vehicle — unlocking new opportunities for Yemen’s fishery sector. Today, the factory’s production has doubled, enabling safe transport, fresher fish, and stronger livelihoods. With new jobs created, 50% growth in production, and expansion to new markets in Qusaiar, Al-Raydah, and Al-Maharah, Al-Mina stands as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and sustainable progress.
