Strengthening water, sanitation and hygiene service for better healthcare
This animation is part of "Towards a systemic approach to WASH in healthcare facilities" a free online course on the WASH Systems Academy.
Reliable water, sanitation, and hygiene services, waste management and electricity in healthcare facilities are fundamental to infection prevention and control, patient safety, and the delivery of quality care.
Yet in many countries, these essential services remain fragmented, and project driven, limiting sustainability and undermining progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health security.
This 4‑hour course shows you how to systematically strengthen WASH systems within the broader health system to realise reliable, safe, and equitable health care. It draws on global frameworks, country experiences, and practical lessons and tools that you can adapt to your context. This course has been created by IRC with funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the Government of the United Kingdom under the WASH Systems for Health programme.
