Start Fund Nepal - Impact and Insights

Start Fund Nepal reflects an ongoing effort to respond to the growing humanitarian impacts of climate change across the country. Communities throughout Nepal are facing increasingly severe floods, droughts, disease outbreaks, and rising temperatures, all of which are putting pressure on people’s health, livelihoods, and daily survival. Heatwaves, in particular, are becoming more dangerous, affecting both income and well-being, especially among vulnerable populations. Flooding has had devastating consequences in many areas, destroying homes and disrupting livelihoods. These shocks often push already at-risk families deeper into crisis. Start Fund Nepal focuses on rapid, locally led action. Emergency support can be mobilised within 72 hours, with member organizations delivering life-saving assistance to affected communities within seven days. To date, SFN has reached more than 300,000 people across 39 districts in Nepal. At the same time, the approach continues to evolve. Around 25% of humanitarian support is now delivered through anticipatory action, helping communities prepare for predictable crises before they escalate. This includes targeted efforts to strengthen preparedness for flooding, aiming to reduce risks and build resilience ahead of disasters.
