Sanitary Landfill for Environmental Protection

What happens to 140 tonnes of waste produced daily in one of the world’s largest refugee responses? In the Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps, organic waste is turned into compost, while non-recyclable waste is safely contained through a purpose-built sanitary landfill at Camp 20 Extension. Developed by UNDP and operated by BRAC, the 60,000 m³ facility supports 26 camps in Ukhiya, designed to be efficient, non-invasive, and sustainable.
