Vang Vieng, one of Lao PDR’s most iconic tourism destinations, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Rapid tourism growth, however, has also led to increasing waste generation and environmental pressure. This video showcases a pilot project in Vang Vieng that strengthens sustainable waste management through waste separation and recycling. Working with local authorities, communities, tourism businesses, and development partners, the project established recycling banks in hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and schools—actively engaging tourism establishments and achieving notable waste diversion results. Through the ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Project, Germany, implemented by GIZ, demonstrates how local action and strong multi-stakeholder collaboration can turn environmental challenges into opportunities for cleaner, more sustainable cities across ASEAN. #asean #wastemanagement #gizworks
