Entire families are being forcefully displaced, warns UN Palestine Committee at the Security Council
During the UN Security Council open debate (28 April 2026) Ambassador Umar Hadi, Vice-Chair of the UN Palestine Committee, warns that the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is moving toward deeper fragmentation, dispossession and despair. The statement highlights the continuing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, escalating settler violence across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, forced displacement of Palestinian families, destruction of homes and livelihoods, and restrictions on access to Holy Sites during Eid al-Fitr and Easter.
The statement calls on the Security Council to act swiftly to protect civilians, reject annexation, demographic engineering and collective punishment, and uphold the unity of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as one political, legal and territorial unit under occupation. It also urges implementation of the New York Declaration as a framework for ending the occupation and siege, advancing the two-State solution, supporting Palestinian self-determination, return, independence and statehood, and grounding diplomacy in international law and accountability.
