AAG SOMO GASLIGHTING REPORT LAUNCH TRAILER

Gaslighting Ghana: A Call for Economic Justice in the Face of Fossil Fuel Debt On April 24, ActionAid Ghana and the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO) launched the "Gaslighting Ghana" report. This urgent exposé reveals how exploitative fossil fuel investments and unjust energy contracts have driven Ghana into a cycle of unsustainable debt. The report highlights the devastating impacts of projects such as the West African Gas Pipeline, Jubilee, and Sankofa. These projects have drained public resources, harmed the environment, and weakened national institutions. The findings emphasise the role of global actors, particularly the World Bank Group and private investors, in shaping an energy sector that prioritizes profit over the needs of the people. Burdened by take-or-pay agreements and skewed guarantees, Ghana continues to pay for gas and electricity that it cannot fully utilize, exacerbating the country’s debt crisis while providing little benefit to ordinary citizens. ActionAid Ghana and SOMO, is calling for : ✅ A full review of all unjust fossil fuel contracts ✅ An independent audit of fossil-related debt ✅ Cancellation of illegitimate financial obligations ✅ Accountability from the World Bank and private investors ✅ A people-centered, renewable energy transition that puts communities and the planet first 📘 Read the full report here: [https://bit.ly/4jRJwq9]
