In April 2026, the World Bank Tokyo DRM Hub and GFDRR hosted the EP&R Learning Academy in Tokyo and Sendai, Japan, with financial support from the Government of Japan and the Government of Canada. The Academy was designed as a peer-learning and technical exchange platform. It brought together government representatives from 15 World Bank member countries, World Bank operational teams, and Japanese experts to compare institutional models, share operational lessons, and address readiness challenges. ABOUT THE GLOBAL FACILITY FOR DISASTER REDUCTION AND RECOVERY (GFDRR) is a global partnership that helps low- and lower-middle-income countries better understand and reduce their vulnerabilities to natural hazards and adapt to climate change. GFDRR provides grant financing, technical assistance, training and knowledge sharing activities to mainstream disaster and climate risk management in national and regional policies, strategies, and investment plans.
