Building Bridges: The UN–YES Partnership to transform Youth Employment

Across South Africa, talented young professionals have the ambition and skills to drive innovation—but too often lack the pathways into meaningful work. This week, the United Nations and the YES Partnership launched an initiative designed to change that. A direct bridge from learning into earning. Young professionals will be placed directly into careers across UN agencies and development organisations—from humanitarian response to peacekeeping operations to sustainable development work. These aren't internships that lead nowhere. These are genuine career pathways built on real partnership. As Nelson Mandela said: investing in young people is not an act of charity. It is an investment in economic growth, innovation and shared prosperity. No young person's potential should go unrealised. No opportunity should be locked away by circumstance.
