In rural communities across Guatemala, thousands of girls face menstruation with fear, shame, and limited information. The lack of water, adequate sanitation facilities, and menstrual hygiene products can cause many girls to miss classes or even drop out of school. Meet Jennifer, a girl from Alta Verapaz who learned that menstruation should not be a source of fear or embarrassment, but rather a natural stage of life that can be experienced with dignity, knowledge, and support. Together with the Ministry of Education, UNICEF Guatemala is working to strengthen menstrual health and hygiene education in rural schools by promoting safe spaces, educational sessions, and menstrual hygiene kits so that more girls can stay in school. 💙 Because when a girl can attend school without fear or shame, she has more opportunities to learn, grow, and build a better future.
