ABBA’s iconic song Chiquitita has become much more than a song of hope. Thanks to royalties donated by the group, UNICEF provides psychosocial support, protection, and educational assistance to girls and adolescent survivors of violence in Guatemala.
Meet Mercedes, a teenager from Alta Verapaz who, with the support of UNICEF and its partners, was able to return to school and rebuild her life project with a clear dream: to become a lawyer and defend other girls and women.
Over the past two years, UNICEF has reached more than 42,000 children and adolescents through violence prevention initiatives in vulnerable communities across Guatemala.
