As part of the efforts to reduce plastic bag use in Kosovo, institutions have taken important steps toward more sustainable consumption and better environmental protection.
Following a 2022 analysis that showed very high plastic bag consumption, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, with support from the German Government through GIZ, launched measures to reduce plastic bag use and promote the implementation of the Administrative Instruction on Packaging and Packaging Waste.
The recently launched 2024 Report on Plastic Bag Use shows positive progress, confirming that these measures are already contributing to a significant reduction in plastic bag consumption in Kosovo. At the same time, continued efforts are needed to strengthen implementation.
In this video, Florije Tahiri from the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning shares how this process began, what progress has been made so far, and why the next step is stronger implementation of these measures, especially among small and medium-sized businesses.
