When Vaccines Go Digital - How Rwanda Is Reaching Every Child

Across Rwanda, health workers are using digital tools to transform how children receive life saving vaccines. Through the national e Tracker system, nurses now record vaccinations on tablets, follow up with children who miss appointments, and send SMS reminders directly to parents. This shift from paper registers to real time digital data is helping improve coverage, reduce missed vaccinations, and strengthen decision making at all levels of the health system. Digitalisation has also given nurses more time to support families with guidance on child health, nutrition and care, while parents gain peace of mind knowing their children’s vaccination schedules are securely tracked. Led by the Government of Rwanda with support from UNICEF and partners, digital health innovations are strengthening the national immunisation programme and helping ensure that every child in Rwanda is counted, protected and reached on time with life saving services.
