Build Back Safer of Flood Affected Communities in Sylhet
The Sustainable, Safe and Protective Living Space for Survivors of Flash Flood 2022 in Sylhet, Bangladesh (SSPL) project was funded by Islamic Relief UK and implemented by Islamic Relief Bangladesh (IRB). The project started on 01 August 2023 and was completed over a 10-month implementation period. It was carried out in Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet, one of the areas most severely affected by the 2022 flash floods.
Under this initiative, IRB constructed 82 safe, accessible, and disaster-resilient shelters and handed them over to marginalised and highly vulnerable families who were left homeless or at high risk due to the devastating floods. The project directly supported women, men, boys, and girls from affected households, ensuring that they received dignified and protective living spaces.
By providing durable shelter construction and rehabilitation support, the SSPL project significantly enhanced the safety, well-being, and resilience of the flash-flood-affected community in Sylhet, enabling families to rebuild their lives with security and dignity.
