Roots, tubers and bananas: supporting cleaning & dissemination of safe germplasm in Eastern Africa
The Roots, Tubers and Bananas – East Africa Germplasm Exchange Laboratory (RTB-EAGEL) is a laboratory designed for testing and cleaning plant materials, multiplying plant germplasm vegetatively using tissue culture technology, and distributing them as required.
It is being rebuilt through Crops to End Hunger, a program funded by Germany through GIZ, to serve as a key hub for root, tuber and banana germplasm exchange in East Africa, ultimately fostering food security in the whole region.
