Replacing Poppies with Prosperity

Replacing Poppies with Prosperity

Since 2016, UNDP has invested over $90 million to support Afghan farmers in six high poppies-cultivating provinces, helping them shift to high-value horticulture. So far, 60,000 households have planted licit crops on more than 2,700 hectares, 33 irrigation projects have improved over 26,000 hectares, and 27 post-harvest facilities are now operational. UNDP has also supported 100 Afghan agribusinesses to attend 14 international trade events, generating $34.5 million in export sales and $56 million in local market sales.
