Coloured Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) expand the architectural possibilities of solar façades – but they also introduce new challenges for performance modelling and system evaluation.
In this interview, Markus Babin, expert of IEA PVPS Task 15, explains why coloured BIPV systems are more complex to model than conventional PV.
Markus also introduces a new Task 15 modelling intercomparison activity, inviting PV modellers and researchers to test their models using real-world data from two coloured BIPV façade installations. The initiative aims to better understand modelling uncertainties, compare different approaches, and improve transparency and accuracy in BIPV performance assessment. Other experts are warmly encouraged to get involved.
