Webinar, IEA PVPS Task 13, PV in the Greater Arctic Region

PV in the Greater Arctic Region: Technical Opportunities and Challenges for the Energy Transition The greater Arctic region (above 60°N latitude) is often overlooked when it comes to photovoltaic (PV) deployment. However, despite its challenging climate and unique environmental conditions, this region holds significant potential for PV to contribute to energy security and the energy transition. In this webinar, experts explore how PV systems can be effectively deployed in high-latitude regions. The session highlights both the opportunities and the technical challenges of designing, installing, and operating PV in Arctic conditions. Key topics include: * Solar resource assessment in high-latitude environments * Impacts of snow, ice, and extreme weather conditions * System design considerations for Arctic climates * Operation and maintenance (O&M) challenges * Performance modelling in unique environmental conditions Speakers: * Erin Tonita, CanmetENERGY (Canada) * Adam Jensen, Technical University of Denmark (Denmark) * Joshua S. Stein, Sandia National Laboratories (USA)
