Rebana-Tex: Turning Banana Waste into Sustainable Textiles
Meet Jonathan, founder of Rebana-tex, a social venture in Rwanda transforming banana stem waste into sustainable fabric. With over 3 million tons of bananas produced each year, he saw both a problem and an opportunity. Through mentorship and access to cutting-edge equipment at UniPod Rwanda, Jonathan designed and prototyped machines that turn banana stems into fibers and threads. His vision is to connect farmers and designers to build a greener future for Africa’s textile industry a true revolution for fashion and the planet.
