Transforming WASH in schools in Ghana
In Ghana, 84% of the population lacks safely managed sanitation and 12% has no basic drinking water. The impact on children’s health and education is devastating – from waterborne diseases claiming thousands of lives each year to poor school facilities that hinder learning.
WSUP is changing this. Working with municipal assemblies, local leaders, chiefs, parents, and religious leaders, we’re delivering sustainable WASH solutions in schools across Ghana. Our approach goes beyond building toilets and taps – we create community ownership, train school staff, and form school health committees to keep facilities clean and functional.
We’re also piloting a digital monitoring system to track WASH facility performance in real time, helping local authorities budget for maintenance and close funding gaps.
From improved infrastructure to empowered communities, WSUP Ghana is building a future where every child learns in a healthy, dignified environment.
