The sunny side of turning waste into wealth
Saniwise Technology, a Kenyan enterprise, is transforming waste into valuable resources. By repurposing plastic waste, including menstrual products, into affordable toilets and using toilet waste to produce high-protein insect larvae, Saniwise is addressing both sanitation and environmental challenges.
With WSUP's support - through the Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF) grant - Saniwise has enhanced its branding and operational capacity. This has led to increased demand for their products, including 15 toilets and over 200 kilograms of larvae.
Looking ahead, Saniwise aims to expand its impact by scaling up its brick production using recycled menstrual products and reaching more schools. By 2025, the company envisions processing 100,000 tons of plastic waste annually, contributing to a cleaner environment and creating green jobs.
