What does fair Collaboration Look like
Equitable research partnerships are essential for producing high-quality, ethical, and policy-relevant evidence—yet fairness in global research collaboration remains uneven, particularly between the Global North and Global South.
In this video, the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) explores what genuine equitable North–South research collaboration looks like and why Southern leadership and localisation are critical to transforming the global research ecosystem. The discussion highlights how equitable collaboration shifts research from extractive practices to reciprocal, co-owned partnerships that address historical power imbalances and deliver more impactful outcomes.
The video also introduces PEP’s Call to Action on equitable research collaboration, which advocates for empowering researchers in the Global South to lead, design, and disseminate research grounded in local policy priorities. Key areas for joint action include research funding, leadership, publication, and knowledge dissemination.
Insights from PEP research further emphasize the need for long-term research partnerships, direct funding to Southern institutions, and success metrics that value the quality of collaboration alongside research outputs. These shifts are critical for building trust, strengthening capacity, and ensuring research reflects the priorities of local communities.
Equitable collaboration is not just about participation—it is about influence, shared ownership, and lasting impact.
Join PEP in advancing a more inclusive, locally led global research system.
