How reading has changed this boy's world | Save the Children UK
Evans is just seven years old, but every book he picks up is opening up his world in ways he never imagined.
He’s curious, thoughtful, and full of big dreams — one day, he wants to be an island chief like his grandad. For Evans, reading is more than just learning; it’s a way to explore. Through books, he travels far beyond his life in Vanuatu, diving into stories about space, black holes, robots on Mars, and even the possibility of aliens.
It’s this joy of reading that sparks his imagination and helps him dream bigger every day.
But not every child has the same access to books. In Vanuatu, nearly 79% of Year 4 children aren’t meeting basic literacy standards. That’s why Save the Children’s social enterprise, Library For All, is working to change that — bringing meaningful, engaging books to all 56,000 primary school children across the country.
Because when children have access to books, they don’t just learn to read — they discover who they are and who they can become.
If you believe in the power of reading, stories, and education, this is one to watch. 📖✨
