Tax Progressivity and Review of Fiscal Incentives for Sustainable and Climate-resilient SP in LAC

This webinar examined how regressive and inefficient tax incentives can undermine public finances, weaken progressive tax systems and constrain resources needed for a just transition. Focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean, it explored the intersection between tax progressivity and the review of regressive tax expenditures, highlighting how these measures can strengthen domestic resource mobilization and international tax cooperation to finance inclusive social protection systems and climate-related policies. The discussion also provided a forum for technical and policy dialogue, promoting knowledge exchange, regional coordination and fiscal reforms aimed at enhancing revenue generation, advancing social justice and supporting sustainable economic transitions within the framework of the PTLAC. - Read more about the webinar discussions and access the slide presentation: https://tinyurl.com/mudza478 - Opening remarks: Dalmiro Morán, Economic Affairs Officer, Fiscal Affairs Unit - Economic Development Division / ECLAC Ana Guidolin, Economic Policy Advisor, Ministry of Finance of Brazil - Speakers: Tatiana Falcão, Senior Policy Expert, United Nations Subcommittee on Environmental Taxation Claudiney Pereira, Clinical (Full) Professor, Department of Economics of Arizona State University Débora Freire, Undersecretary of Fiscal Policy, Ministry of Finance Brazil Cristian Sánchez, Head - Tax Incentives Analysis Division, Ministry of Finance Dominican Republic - Moderator: Keiti Gomes, Director of International Studies, IPEA Brazil _____________ About socialprotection.org - Join our community of global social protection practitioners: http://socialprotection.org/ - Subscribe to our mailing list to be updated on future webinars and the latest social protection content: https://socialprotection.org/subscribe-our-webinar-alerts Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/socialprotectionorg/ X: https://twitter.com/SP_Gateway LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/socialprotection.org/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/socialprotectionorg TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@socialprotectionorg Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/socialprotection.bsky.social
