From National Data to Global Monitoring: New approaches to building robust systems of social protection statistics
This webinar highlighted that reliable, up-to-date and comprehensive social protection statistics are essential for evidence-based policymaking, supporting the design, implementation and continuous improvement of policies and programmes. Beyond institutions, such data enables social partners, academics, journalists and civil society to engage in informed debates on coverage, adequacy and financing, while strengthening transparency and public trust. Against this backdrop, the session explored tools and approaches to reinforce national social protection statistics and showcased the ILO’s innovative global efforts, drawing on case studies from Cabo Verde’s Social Protection Statistics Bulletin and Nigeria’s development of a social protection management information system.
