“I remember it every day, every night…even in my dreams. It never goes away,” says Oleksandr, who lost his leg after stepping on a mine. Oleksandr is one of many people whose lives have been changed by mines and explosive remnants of war. As we mark International Mine Awareness Day, we’re raising awareness of their devastating impact and the long road to recovery that follows. Through its physical rehabilitation programme, the ICRC supports people affected by explosive ordnance injuries, helping them regain mobility and rebuild their lives.
