Launch of the Digital Rights Dashboard: Advancing Rights-Based Digital Transformation for All
Digital technologies are reshaping societies worldwide, offering new opportunities to advance human rights through expanded freedom of expression, civic participation, and access to essential services. At the same time, they introduce significant risks—such as surveillance, censorship, algorithmic bias, and digital exclusion—that can undermine fundamental rights and deepen inequalities.
To help countries navigate these opportunities and challenges, UNDP has developed the Digital Rights Dashboard (DRD), a new tool within the Digital Development Compass framework that supports countries in assessing their readiness to uphold four essential digital rights: freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, equality and non-discrimination, and privacy.
This recorded panel discussion, held on December 9, 2025, marked the official launch of the DRD and its accompanying Pilot Country Insights Report, featuring findings from five diverse countries: Colombia, Lebanon, Mauritania, North Macedonia, and Samoa.
During the session, experts shared key insights from the pilot analyses, discussed practical recommendations, and reflected on how the DRD can inform national dialogue, shape policy, and strengthen rights-based digital development. The conversation highlighted the importance of ensuring that human rights remain central to digital transformation efforts around the world.
