Tracking Ghana’s Timber: Protecting Forests and People
Ghana’s forests are vital, providing livelihoods, protecting biodiversity, and storing carbon. For years, illegal logging has threatened forests and the people who depend on them. Together, Ghana and the European Union built a timber traceability system that follows every log from the harvesting site to the point of sale. Ghana is now the second country in the world to issue a FLEGT licence, proving its timber meets the highest international standards.
This video by Civic Response, Fern’s partner, explains how the traceability system works and why it matters. Ghana’s model proves that legal trade, sustainable forests and community rights can go hand in hand.
