Critical action 3: Building infrastructure and skills

Reaching net-zero by mid-century will rely on massive, clean electrification. There are six critical actions for the 2020s that will enable that necessary scale up in electricity deployment. The third action is building the infrastructure and skills required for simultaneous mass electrification and power system decarbonisation. Digitalised and expanded transmission and distribution networks are essential to building the clean power systems of the future. New regulatory frameworks should enable anticipatory investment, to build networks ahead of need and reduce future bottlenecks. We must also build the infrastructure necessary for electrification, such as electric vehicle charging stations. Training and educating the workforce of tomorrow is also crucial to build and run these clean energy systems. Watch the video to find out what other actions are needed to ensure a prosperous, greener economy is in reach.
