Scaling sanitation: How Shinyanga turned investment into impact
In Shinyanga, Tanzania, a faecal sludge treatment plant (FSTP) is helping the city stay clean, protect its water sources, and keep people healthy. Built in 2021 with support from SNV and funding from the Government of the Netherlands, the plant now runs independently. Behind this sanitation success are the people who worked together to choose the right system to invest in.
The Shinyanga FSTP was constructed as part of WASH SDG programme implementation, a multi-country collaborative initiative between SNV, WAI, and Plan International.
