How the IMEU project is transforming Uganda's energy landscape
In Uganda, the Inclusive Markets for Energy Efficiency in Uganda (IMEU) project has been catalysing energy efficiency markets since 2021. Accelerating energy efficiency and clean energy transition is a national priority, serving as an effective strategy for reducing energy costs, boosting productivity, improving livelihoods, as well as adapting to and mitigating climate change.
Implemented by a consortium led by SNV in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, IMEU is actively shaping policies and catalysing investments that increase business and community adoption of energy-efficient solutions. To date, the project has reached over 41,000 households with energy-efficient solutions.
In this video, learn how IMEU is accelerating Uganda's energy efficiency transition through strengthening capacities, building collaborations, and promoting innovative financing mechanisms.

For years, Uganda's energy efficiency sector struggled with limited awareness, high upfront costs, and a lack of affordable finance. To tackle these challenges, the IMEU (Inclusive Markets for Energy Efficiency) project, funded by the Embassy of Sweden and implemented by a consortium led by SNV in partnership with Makerere University (CEDAT) and PSFU, has been catalyzing the market since December 2021.
