The WHO Traditional Medicine Global Library
The WHO Traditional Medicine Global Library is a landmark platform that bridges knowledge across cultures and generations, honoring the world’s rich heritage of traditional, complementary and integrative practices.
As an inclusive digital platform, this library hosts over 1.6 million records from databases, repositories and curated sources, combining ancestral wisdom with modern science to strengthen health systems, research, and policy.
Featuring six regional portals, 194 country pages, the library offers diverse resources such as evidence maps, AI tools, multimedia content and thematic pages developed in collaboration with WHO Member States, health authorities, and civil society. The Library promotes equitable access through partnerships with Research4Life and other open science platforms, ensuring usability for all communities.
Launched during the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, WHO Traditional Medicine Global Library responds to global calls from leaders at G20 and BRICS to create a repository for traditional knowledge systems.
Guided by the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre and technically developed by BIREME/PAHO with support from Member States, the library fosters global collaboration, protects traditional knowledge and advances universal health coverage.
The library is continuously expanding and will grow through the dedicated work of policymakers, researchers, health workers and communities.
At its core, The WHO Traditional Medicine Global Library champions a holistic, people-centered vision of health and well-being, enabling inclusive, respectful, and evidence-informed approaches for a healthier world.
