Dr Jarbas Barbosa - World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2026
On World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, let’s not forget an inescapable reality: these diseases disproportionately affect those who have the least, especially poor communities, rural populations, families in remote areas, and Indigenous peoples.
In our Region, more than 200 million people suffer the consequences of these diseases. They are not just numbers: they represent children and families deprived of opportunities and communities trapped in poverty. Globally, neglected tropical diseases cause estimated economic losses of 33 billion US dollars per year.
