These countries are leading the energy transition in 2026

The energy transition is underway. But progress around the world is uneven. Which countries are furthest ahead? And which are catching up the fastest? The Energy Transition Index benchmarks the progress of 120 countries towards a more secure, equitable and sustainable energy future. Familiar names are at the top this year, but there is notable progress elsewhere, as Roberto Bocca, Head of the Forum’s Centre for Energy and Materials, explains. The World Economic Forum is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. It provides a global, impartial and not-for-profit platform for meaningful connection between stakeholders to establish trust, and build initiatives for cooperation and progress.
