Clearing the Way for Recovery in Ukraine

Recovery often begins long before reconstruction. Since 2022, with the generous support of the EU, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Sweden, UNDP has supported the dismantling of more than 1,600 war-damaged buildings across Ukraine, enabling the safe removal of nearly one million tonnes of debris. Behind every site is more than rubble. These were homes, workplaces, schools and community spaces. Places where people lived, worked and built their futures. Clearing dangerous debris is one of the first steps towards recovery. It helps restore safety, unlock reconstruction efforts and create space for communities to rebuild and move forward. Every tonne removed brings communities one step closer to new beginnings. Video: UNDP Ukraine
