Temporary Overshoot Of 1.5°C Indicates A World On The Wrong Path
🌡🌎The world has recently exceeded the critical threshold of 1.5°C in global average temperature over the past 12 months, largely due to El Niño conditions. While this temporary overshoot does not signify a failure of the Paris Agreement goals, it underscores the urgent need for climate action, remarks Dr. Colin Young, Executive Director of the CCCCC.
Scientists caution that unless greenhouse gas emissions are rapidly reduced,, this warming trend is likely to persist. Exceeding 1.5°C will lead to more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and severe consequences for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
