As artificial intelligence continues to scale across sectors, understanding its environmental footprint is becoming essential. This webinar introduces a new international standard on assessing the environmental impact of AI systems (ITU‑T L.1801, also known as an ITU‑T Recommendation)—the first of its kind to provide a comprehensive and harmonized methodology. The session offers a deep dive into the standard, exploring how it enables organizations to assess the environmental impacts of AI across its full lifecycle—from development and training to deployment and end-of-life—while accounting for both direct and indirect effects. Through practical explanations and real-world perspectives, participants will learn how the standard can be applied to support transparent, comparable, and robust environmental assessments of AI systems. The webinar will also highlight the importance of early implementation, encouraging stakeholders to adopt and test the standard in real use cases, contribute to its evolution, and help build the first global evidence base for sustainable and responsible AI deployment.
