Scaling Basic Emergency Care (BEC): Our Next Chapter

Laerdal Global Health was founded to help save lives at birth and over 15 years, partner-led programs like the Safer Births Bundle of Care have helped drive major reductions in mortality, including 40% fewer newborn deaths and 75% fewer maternal deaths in Tanzania. Now we’re expanding our impact by integrating emergency care into our health system strengthening strategy. In close partnership with the World Health Organization, we’re supporting the scale-up of Basic Emergency Care (BEC) – a proven, cost-effective approach that can reduce mortality by up to 50% when implemented well. Together with WHO, we’ve helped develop a more scalable model that combines hybrid learning with the Emergency Care Learning Lab to make hands-on practice easier and bring training closer to the point of care. This isn’t a shift in focus, it’s a natural progression of what we’ve learned about simulation, continuous practice, and quality improvement. And it supports one shared goal: helping save one million lives every year by 2030. Read more: https://laerdalglobalhealth.com/resources/news/expanding-our-impact-from-birth-to-basic-emergency-care/
