Model Forests and Wildfire & Disaster Risk Reduction

Forest fires account for almost half of all tree cover loss, account for billions of dollars in property damage, and are responsible for over 1.5 million deaths per year. As fires worsen, so do their impacts, underscoring the urgency of getting them in check. The International Model Forest Network is spearheading one solution. Through community-organized fire patrols, women-led response networks, and science-backed restoration strategies, the Model Forest approach helps communities prevent, manage, and recover from wildfires through locally adapted techniques.
