Working with investigative journalists to expose corruption | Transparency International

The Global Anti-Corruption Consortium (GACC) is a ground-breaking partnership that brings together investigative reporting from the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and advocacy driven by Transparency International. Investigative journalists and civil society groups play a critical role in exposing and proving corruption. Investigative journalism focuses on uncovering the truth and publishing it, regardless of any inconvenience caused to governments, politicians or other public figures. Its goal is not to enact change directly but to inform those who have the power to do so with impartial information. Civil society activists, on the other hand, advocate and campaign for change by targeting decision-makers and institutions. Recognising this need, the GACC was launched in 2016 to generate synergies between investigative journalism and civil society advocacy and accelerate the fight against cross-border corruption. Its innovative collaboration model allows for evidence uncovered by OCCRP’s cross-border investigative reporting to be used to fuel the efforts of Transparency International’s anti-corruption movement and to strengthen its advocacy and strategic casework at national, regional and global levels.
